Amanda Bossard was just out her high school days when she started her marine biology studies at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage. Bossard started her commercial seafood career in 1999 when she was hired on board the F/V Sunset. The 65' schooner, which was transformed into a salmon tender was operated by Murat Aritan. He has been a commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard married Aritan in 1999, and the two have joined to defend their businesses. Both are in favour of conserving resources as well as maximising profits. Otolith is an independent wholesale distributor of seafood founded in Philadelphia in 2007, by a woman who is now the mother of two young children: Bella age 3 and Andre aged 1. Its name is a sweet recall of her extensive fish biology knowledge and her husband's extensive involvement in the seafood industry often keeping them apart for 5 months or more at a time when they are focused on their financial and environmental goals which reflect both their independence and commitment to their community wherever they live. Bossard as well as Isabella as well as Andre (ages 12 and 10 respectively) Return each year starting in July 2016 and continue to Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest from wild salmon.
